Indian Bank's updated apprenticeship advertisement, issued on 4 November 2026, offers 1,500 tentative training seats. Applications run from 5 to 25 November 2026. The 12-month programme carries different stipends by branch location and is not an appointment to the regular bank workforce.
What Indian Bank has announced
Indian Bank has published its updated 2026–27 apprenticeship advertisement dated 4 November 2026, under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The bank lists 1,500 tentative training seats in different states and Union Territories. Online applications and fee payments are scheduled from 5 November to 25 November 2026, both dates inclusive. The bank says training seats may change according to actual requirements. These are not sanctioned vacancies for 1,500 permanent clerks or officers.
Why this announcement matters at bank branches
The apprentices will undergo branch-based, on-the-job training in banking processes, making the programme relevant to staff who may guide trainees and handle operational and confidentiality safeguards. The bank says normal customer-service working hours will generally guide daily training. Its notice also sets conditions concerning discipline, confidentiality, assessment, leave and medical fitness. But it does not promise a regular employee headcount increase, nor identify precisely which existing staff will supervise individual trainees. Those details must come from separate bank implementation instructions.
Who is eligible to apply?
General age eligibility is 20 to 28 years on 1 November 2026, with applicable category-wise age relaxations. A recognised graduate degree in any discipline is required. Graduation must have been completed between 1 April 2022 and 1 November 2026, inclusive, and the result must have been declared by the cut-off date. Applicants need documentary proof of their qualification.
Candidates first have to register on the NATS 2.0 apprenticeship portal and complete the required profile. Indian Bank allows an applicant to apply for one state or Union Territory, with district preferences subject to the bank’s allocations. The advertisement also bars certain candidates with prior apprenticeship or one year or more of post-qualification work experience. A candidate should verify all individual eligibility conditions rather than rely on just the age and degree requirements.
Selection process: exam and local language
The online objective test is designed for 100 questions, 100 marks and 60 minutes. It covers reasoning aptitude, computer knowledge, English, quantitative aptitude and general awareness with special reference to banking. The bank retains discretion over whether to hold an interview. A specified local-language proficiency test may be required after the online test; candidates with prescribed school records showing they studied the relevant local language may be exempt. Read the original notice for applicable exemptions and category requirements.
Monthly stipend, training duration and fees
| Provision | Official figure |
|---|---|
| Metro/urban training branch | ₹15,000 total per month |
| Rural/semi-urban training branch | ₹12,300 total per month |
| Training duration | 12 months |
| Application charge: General/OBC/EWS | ₹800 plus GST |
| Application charge: SC/ST/PwBD | ₹175 plus GST |
The stipend numbers already include the relevant bank and government components; they are total monthly amounts, not two separate allowances to be added together. The bank says apprentices are not entitled to additional allowances or other benefits under the scheme. The published trainee rules differ from those governing a regular officer or clerical employee.
Does successful training lead to a bank job?
No automatic employment right is created. Indian Bank expressly states that an apprentice cannot demand a regular or contractual job after training and that the bank has no obligation to offer one. The apprenticeship normally ends at the close of the 12-month term. Successful completion may produce a proficiency certificate subject to the training and assessment conditions, but it is not an appointment letter.
Important checks before acting on the notice
Applicants should consult the official 44-page PDF for seat distribution by state and district, reservation categories, supporting documents, online application requirements, local-language rules and selection details. A seat advertised for a state does not guarantee placement at a preferred branch. Bank employees should keep this training engagement separate from distinct regular recruitment programmes and rely on subsequent bank circulars for branch-specific handling. Updates or corrigenda should be checked on Indian Bank’s official careers page.
