A coordination committee representing unions in State Bank of India-sponsored Regional Rural Banks has announced a proposed one-day strike for 30 November 2026. The notice, reported on 3 November, raises staff-benefit parity, promotions and cross-selling targets. It is an announced industrial action, not evidence that the strike has already occurred.

Who has given the strike call?

The Kanal reported on 3 November that the Co-ordination Committee of Unions in SBI-Sponsored Regional Rural Banks issued a strike notice dated 1 November 2026 to SBI management. The committee is associated with regional rural bank employee and officer organisations, including AIRRBEA, NFRRBO and NFRRBE.

The reporting describes a proposed one-day industrial action across nine SBI-sponsored RRBs on 30 November 2026. A future strike call is not the same as a strike that has taken place. The complete original notice was referenced in the news report, but an independently hosted signed official copy and management reply were not obtained for this article.

Main employee demands

The reported 15-point charter seeks parity of allowances and welfare measures with the sponsor bank, review of RRB categorisation, correction of perquisite-tax issues, manpower autonomy, stronger internal promotion opportunities, and fairer transfer arrangements. It also calls for implementation of applicable bipartite-settlement and joint-note provisions, with scope determined by the relevant RRB rules.

An important part of the dispute concerns pressure to sell insurance, mutual-fund and other third-party products. Union representatives oppose mandatory sales targets and their use in employee appraisal. These are claims and demands advanced by the unions; this reporting does not establish that SBI or the RRB boards accepted them.

Programme announced by the unions

The report says the committee described three stages: work-to-rule and non-cooperation from 5 October, a boycott of third-party cross-selling from 1 November, and the proposed one-day strike on 30 November. Participation and the practical effect at individual branches cannot be predicted from the notice alone.

The report identifies notices or copies addressed to relevant labour authorities, the Ministry of Finance, NABARD, SBI and RRB chairpersons. It does not provide a verified conciliation outcome, an agreed settlement or a later withdrawal of the strike call.

What staff should watch next

Employees in affected RRBs need the current instructions issued by their own bank and recognised union before taking any operational or attendance decision. Sponsor-bank employees and RRB employees are distinct service groups; a demand for parity does not automatically make every SBI entitlement available to an RRB employee.

The next material developments would be an official conciliation notice, written management response, revised settlement or change in the strike plan. This article will require updating if those records become available.
