Union Bank of India says 16,880 retired employees and family pensioners have enrolled in its renewed IBA group medical insurance policy for 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027. A 31 October staff circular confirms National Insurance as insurer and Heritage Health Insurance TPA as claims-service administrator.

What Union Bank has confirmed

Union Bank of India has issued staff circular 103268-2026, dated 31 October 2026, on the group medical insurance arrangement for its retired employees and family pensioners for the 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027 policy year. It confirms the renewed policy, the appointed insurer and the administrator handling policy services. The bank says 16,880 retired employees and family pensioners successfully enrolled through the October option window and paid the required premiums.

The figure is the number of successful enrolments reported by the bank for this policy year. It is not a count of all Union Bank retirees, a count of medical claims, or a promise that every application was approved. Anyone who did not enrol should not assume automatic coverage.

Insurer and claims administrator: two separate roles

Item Bank’s confirmed position
Policy IBA Group Medical Insurance Policy for retired employees and family pensioners
Period 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027
Insurance company National Insurance Company Limited
Third-party administrator Heritage Health Insurance TPA Private Limited
Reported successful enrolments 16,880 retirees and family pensioners

The bank says the insurer has continued for the new policy year pursuant to the Indian Banks’ Association’s communication of 19 September 2026. National Insurance is the insurance company; Heritage is the third-party administrator (TPA) providing administrative and claim-support services. The appointment of a TPA should not be described as a change of insurer.

How the arrangement affects cashless and reimbursement claims

The circular says enrolment details were shared with National Insurance for processing cashless hospitalisation and reimbursement claims arising in the renewed policy period. Retirees should verify that their registration and premium payment were successful, keep their policy acknowledgement, and seek the correct claim forms and service instructions from authorised bank or TPA channels. An enrolment confirmation is not itself an approval of a particular hospital bill or a guarantee of cashless treatment at every hospital.

According to the circular, the insurer/TPA was to share additional operational procedures and the hospitalisation and reimbursement claim forms separately. Accordingly, this report does not invent network hospital lists, room-rent limits, co-payment percentages, exclusions, or claim settlement timelines. Those particulars must be checked against the policy documents and official claims guidance applicable to the individual member.

Where pensioners can check help and policy details

The circular lists Heritage’s 24-hour helplines 033-40145200 and 033-40557600, and a toll-free helpline 18001024547, for enquiries. Union Bank’s official Information for Retired Staff page also links its 2026–27 insurance circulars and online registration information. Retirees should independently verify current support numbers and use official links rather than payment instructions sent in unsolicited messages.

Registration window was in October, not a fresh November offer

A related Union Bank circular, 103248-2026 dated 29 October 2026, had provided a one-time opportunity for eligible retirees who missed the previous application date. It stated that online registration would remain available only until 2:00 p.m. on 30 October 2026 and premiums would be debited by 3:00 p.m. that day. Both dates are now past. The 31 October circular confirms enrolments after the option and premium-payment process; it does not announce another open application round.

The 29 October instruction also warns that failed premium debits, including because of insufficient funds or an inactive or frozen account, could mean no coverage for the period. Anyone uncertain about registration status should contact the bank’s authorised medical-insurance team for an individual status check rather than infer eligibility from the published overall figure.

What this means for retired bankers

  • Successfully enrolled members: confirm their registration and the correct insurer/TPA contact route before seeking treatment or reimbursement.
  • Family pensioners: check their own enrolment record and applicable claim documentation; a former employee’s membership cannot be assumed to cover every relative.
  • Branch and pension-support staff: use the bank’s current circular and helpdesk information to guide retirees, without quoting unverified policy benefits or reopening a closed deadline.
  • Members facing a claim dispute: retain acknowledgement, claim submissions and written responses, and use the officially notified escalation process.

What remains to be confirmed for an individual member

The exact insured sum, premium payable, exclusions, hospital network, claim forms and cashless eligibility are not established merely by the TPA appointment circular. Coverage must be checked against the member’s policy and any additional circulars. This report describes the bank’s documented arrangement as at 5 November 2026; it is not an insurance contract or an assurance of payment.
